Scorpio Season 2026: Dates, Meaning and a New Moon Ritual

A black bowl of still dark water and an unlit black candle on dark stone, lit by one candle flame
Quick answer

Scorpio season 2026 runs from October 23 to November 22. The Sun enters Scorpio at 5:38 a.m. EDT on Friday, October 23, and leaves for Sagittarius on November 22. Three things make this season distinctive: Venus has been retrograde since October 3, Mercury stations retrograde on October 24 and spends the entire retrograde inside Scorpio, and the Sun meets retrograde Venus at 0 degrees 45 minutes of Scorpio on the first evening. The tradition reads Scorpio as the sign of depth and disclosure, the descent half of the wheel rather than the harvest. The limit: no effect of planetary positions on human affairs has been demonstrated, and your Sun sign is the least informative factor in your chart.

Scorpio season 2026 opens at 5:38 a.m. Eastern on Friday, October 23 and closes on November 22. It is an unusually loaded four weeks: Venus is already retrograde, Mercury turns retrograde the next day and never leaves the sign, and the clocks go back in the middle of it.

This is the full run of dates in American time zones, what the tradition actually assigns to this stretch of the year, and a beginner ritual for the New Moon on November 9. It is not a forecast, and it will not tell you what is going to happen to you.

Quick answer

Scorpio season 2026 runs from October 23 to November 22. The Sun enters Scorpio at 5:38 a.m. EDT on Friday, October 23, and leaves for Sagittarius on November 22. Three things make this particular season distinctive: Venus has been retrograde since October 3, Mercury stations retrograde on October 24 and spends the entire retrograde inside Scorpio, and the Sun meets retrograde Venus at 0°45′ Scorpio on the very first evening of the season. The tradition reads Scorpio as the sign of depth, disclosure and what is held rather than shown — the descent half of the wheel, not the harvest. The limit: no effect of planetary positions on human affairs has been demonstrated, and your Sun sign is the least informative thing in your chart.

The exact dates in American time zones

Most astrology sites publish ingress times computed for Central European time, which puts the Sun's entry into Scorpio in the afternoon of October 23. Converted for the United States it lands in the early morning — and in Hawaii it is still the night before.

Time zone Sun enters Scorpio Sun enters Sagittarius
Eastern 5:38 a.m., Fri Oct 23 Sun, Nov 22
Central 4:38 a.m., Fri Oct 23 Sun, Nov 22
Mountain 3:38 a.m., Fri Oct 23 Sun, Nov 22
Pacific 2:38 a.m., Fri Oct 23 Sun, Nov 22
Alaska 1:38 a.m., Fri Oct 23 Sun, Nov 22
Hawaii 11:38 p.m., Thu Oct 22 Sun, Nov 22

Note the daylight-saving seam: the season opens on daylight time and ends on standard time, because the clocks go back on November 1. Every time printed for the second half of this season is standard time, and every time printed for the first week is not. This is the single most common source of confusion in dated astrology content, and it is worth checking which one a given site meant.

If you only put four dates in your calendar: October 23 (season opens, Sun meets retrograde Venus), October 26 (Full Moon in Taurus, the Hunter's Moon), November 9 (New Moon in Scorpio, 2:02 a.m. ET), November 22 (season closes).

Why this Scorpio season is not like the others

In an ordinary year, Scorpio season is simply the Sun moving through thirty degrees of sky. In 2026 three things overlap in a way that will not repeat for a long time.

Venus is retrograde through most of it. Venus stationed retrograde on October 3 at about 8°29′ Scorpio and does not turn direct until November 14, by which time she has walked backwards out of Scorpio and into Libra. Venus retrograde is the rarest of the classical retrogrades — roughly every eighteen months — and this one sits almost entirely inside the season.

Mercury retrogrades entirely within Scorpio. Mercury stations retrograde at 20°59′ Scorpio in the small hours of October 24 and stations direct at 5°02′ on November 13. It never crosses a sign boundary. That is unusual and, in traditional terms, makes the retrograde unusually single-minded: whatever quality you assign to Scorpio, it does not get diluted by a change of scenery.

The Sun meets retrograde Venus on day one. At 11:44 p.m. Eastern on October 23 — the same day the season opens — the Sun and Venus occupy the same degree, 0°45′ Scorpio. Because Venus is retrograde, this is the inferior conjunction: Venus passing between Earth and Sun on the inside track. It is the moment she stops being the evening star and starts being the morning star. Whatever you make of it astrologically, it is a real and observable event, and it happens on the first day of the season.

Date (ET) Event Why it matters
Fri, Oct 23, 5:38 a.m. Sun enters Scorpio The season opens.
Fri, Oct 23, 11:44 p.m. Sun conjunct Venus, 0°45′ Scorpio Venus's inferior conjunction — evening star becomes morning star.
Sat, Oct 24, 3:12 a.m. Mercury stations retrograde Runs to Nov 13, entirely in Scorpio.
Mon, Oct 26, 8:11 a.m. Sun square Pluto The Sun meets Scorpio's modern ruler at right angles.
Mon, Oct 26 Full Moon in Taurus The Hunter's Moon, on the Scorpio–Taurus axis.
Sun, Nov 1 Clocks go back Every later time here is standard time.
Wed, Nov 4, 9:24 a.m. Sun conjunct Mercury, 12°11′ Scorpio Midpoint of the retrograde.
Mon, Nov 9, 2:02 a.m. New Moon in Scorpio, 16°53′ The traditional starting line of the season.
Fri, Nov 13 Mercury stations direct A Friday the 13th, which nobody needs to interpret.
Sat, Nov 14 Venus stations direct, in Libra The long retrograde closes.
Sun, Nov 22 Sun enters Sagittarius Season ends.

We have written up both retrogrades separately if you want the full mechanics: Mercury retrograde 2026 and Venus retrograde 2026.

What Scorpio actually stands for in the tradition

The guiding sentence traditionally attached to Scorpio is I desire. That is worth sitting with, because it is not the same as I want. Want is directed at an object. Desire, in the older sense the phrase preserves, is a condition — something you are in, not something you do.

Scorpio is a fixed water sign. Where Cancer is water that moves and Pisces is water that dissolves, Scorpio is water that is still and deep enough that you cannot see the bottom. That single image carries most of the traditional interpretation: what is below the surface, what is not being said, what has been kept.

Its older ruler is Mars and its modern ruler is Pluto — the only sign with a rulership dispute that is genuinely load-bearing. The Mars reading gives you a sign of will, strategy and stamina. The Pluto reading gives you a sign of compulsion, buried material and irreversible change. Most contemporary interpretation blends them, which is why Scorpio descriptions so often sound like two different signs stitched together.

Position on the wheel matters as much as the symbolism. Scorpio is the eighth of twelve — past the equinox, past the harvest, in the part of the year when the light is going and the practical work is preservation rather than production. In the northern hemisphere where this system was assembled, the season maps onto slaughtering month, the last preserving, the first hard dark. That is not a metaphor added later. It is the weather the symbolism grew in.

The scorpion, the eagle and the snake: where the three symbols come from

You will run into the claim that Scorpio has three symbols representing three stages of development — scorpion, then eagle, then phoenix or dove. It is repeated everywhere, usually without a source, and usually implying great antiquity.

The honest account is more interesting. The eagle genuinely is old: in Babylonian star lore the constellation region carried both a scorpion and an eagle figure, and the eagle appears alongside Scorpio in medieval and Renaissance astrological imagery. The serpent is old too, largely because Ophiuchus — the serpent-bearer — physically overlaps this stretch of sky.

The three-stage developmental ladder, though, is modern. It belongs to the theosophically-influenced astrology of the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries, where it fits a broader habit of reading the zodiac as a path of spiritual evolution. That does not make it worthless — it is a coherent interpretive frame that many practitioners find useful — but it is roughly a century old, not four thousand years old, and it is worth knowing which you are being sold.

Why your Sun sign is the wrong question here

The most common way to use a season article is to ask what it means for your sign. It is also the least informative way.

The Sun moving through Scorpio is one condition shared by everyone alive at the same time. It is weather, not a personal letter. Whether this particular season lands anywhere near you depends on where Scorpio falls in your own chart — which house it governs for you, and whether anything in your chart sits in the degrees the Sun, Mercury and Venus are crossing.

Concretely: if you have planets in the middle degrees of the fixed signs — Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius — this season's transits contact them directly. If you do not, the same four weeks may pass as ordinary weeks. That is not a disappointing answer; it is the actual structure of the technique. If you want to work out where Scorpio sits for you, our guide to the twelve houses is the piece to start with.

Temple Tip

Read the season backwards

Instead of asking what Scorpio season will bring, open a calendar to last year's late October and early November and read what you actually wrote, spent and decided. Most people find a recurring shape there — a conversation that comes round annually, a bill, an anniversary, a mood. That pattern is real and it is yours, and it will tell you more about how you meet this stretch of the year than any generic forecast. Then put the four dates above next to it.

A New Moon in Scorpio ritual for beginners

The New Moon on November 9 at 2:02 a.m. Eastern (11:02 p.m. Pacific on November 8) falls at 16°53′ Scorpio. In the traditional calendar this — not the season's first day — is the starting line: the dark moon in the sign is where anything meant to begin in this window is begun.

You do not need to be awake at 2 a.m. The convention is that the window runs for about a day either side. The evening of November 9 is entirely serviceable, and for most people it is the better choice.

Here is a version that takes about twenty minutes and needs almost nothing.

  1. Set the room down first. Turn off overhead light. One candle is enough. If you cleanse, do it now and briefly — this is the least important part and the part beginners spend the longest on.
  2. Write the thing you have not said. Not a goal, not an intention. The sentence you have been carrying and not saying, to a person or to yourself. One sentence. Nobody else will read it.
  3. Read it out loud, once. This is the whole ritual. Saying a true sentence aloud in an empty room is a genuinely different experience from thinking it, and that difference is what the Scorpio material is pointing at.
  4. Decide what happens to it. Three honest options: keep the paper somewhere you will find it in a year; burn it in a heatproof dish and let the ash go out completely before you leave the room; or do nothing and keep the sentence. All three are legitimate. Choosing is part of it.
  5. Light the candle and stay until it is done. If you are using a single-burn spell candle, sit with it. If it is a candle you will relight, give it ten minutes. Then stop — resist adding steps.
  6. Write the date on something. Put November 9, 2026 in the same place you keep the sentence, or in a calendar. On the next New Moon in Scorpio you will want it.

If you want a stone in your pocket for it, the tumbled pocket stones are the plainest way to do that, and the zodiac candles collection has the rest of the signs if you keep a wheel.

Voices from practice

We do not invent testimonials, so instead of names, here is what practitioners commonly report about this stretch of the year — patterns consistent enough to be worth naming, and vague enough that you should test them against your own record rather than take them on trust.

Teachers of beginner astrology groups often note that Scorpio season produces the year's highest volume of questions about other people — is my ex thinking of me, what does this person really mean, should I look. The seasonal symbolism invites it, and it is also the point at which a practice most easily becomes surveillance of someone else's life rather than attention to one's own.

Practitioners who keep written records frequently report that the useful material from this season shows up late — in the weeks after it closes, not during. That matches the traditional reading of the post-retrograde shadow, which runs to roughly November 29 this year, and it is a good argument for writing things down now and reading them in December.

Among people who run seasonal rituals, a recurring observation is that the Scorpio ritual is the one most often abandoned halfway. The material it asks for is genuinely uncomfortable, and a ritual designed around disclosure will find the limit of how much you want to disclose. Stopping is a legitimate outcome, not a failure.

What we don't promise

No effect of the Sun's position in a zodiac sign on human character, events or outcomes has ever been demonstrated under controlled conditions. Where the question has been tested directly — most famously in the large study of time twins published by Geoffrey Dean and Ivan Kelly in 2003 — the predicted correlations did not appear. That is not a fringe result and we are not going to write around it.

What we are offering is a calendar with a described quality attached to it, which is a genuinely useful thing and a different thing. A season that asks you to write one true sentence and read it aloud does not require the planets to be causing anything in order to be worth doing.

We also do not promise transformation. The word attaches itself to Scorpio in almost every article written about it, including the ones on page one of your search results, and it is doing very little work. Four weeks of a particular slant of light will not restructure your life. What a season can reliably do is give you a date, and dates are how most practice actually happens.

Nothing here is medical, psychological or financial advice. If this season's material is heavier than a journalling prompt can hold — if what surfaces is persistent, not passing — that is a reason to talk to a doctor or therapist, not to light another candle.

Practically: how to work with this

  1. Put the four dates in your phone now. October 23, October 26, November 9, November 22. Doing this in September is the whole difference between a season you work with and a season you notice in hindsight.
  2. Pick one of the three: read, write, or burn. Not all three. The most common beginner error in a loaded season is to plan an elaborate practice and do none of it.
  3. Treat the retrogrades as context, not instructions. You do not have to postpone your life from October 3 to November 14. The traditional advice is to be slower about finalising aesthetic and binding decisions, which is advice, not a prohibition.
  4. Write on November 9 and read on December 1. Put a reminder on the later date. This single habit turns a seasonal ritual into a record you can actually check.
  5. Check the daylight-saving seam before you trust any time you read. Including ours. The clocks go back November 1.

Quiz: how should you spend Scorpio season 2026?

Three questions. Answer for how you actually are, not how you would like to be.

1. What is your relationship to the dates?

2. How much practice do you already have?

3. What is the honest reason you are reading this?

Frequently asked questions about Scorpio season 2026

When exactly does Scorpio season 2026 start and end?

The Sun enters Scorpio on Friday, October 23, 2026 at 5:38 a.m. Eastern (2:38 a.m. Pacific), and leaves for Sagittarius on November 22. You will see October 24 printed on some sites — that is a time-zone artifact from sources computed for European time, not a disagreement about the sky.

Is Mercury retrograde during Scorpio season 2026?

Yes, and for most of it. Mercury stations retrograde at 20°59′ Scorpio in the early hours of October 24 and stations direct at 5°02′ Scorpio on November 13. It stays inside Scorpio for the whole retrograde, which is unusual. Venus is also retrograde from October 3 to November 14.

What is the New Moon in Scorpio 2026 date?

November 9, 2026, at 2:02 a.m. Eastern (11:02 p.m. Pacific on November 8), at 16°53′ Scorpio. The practical window is generally taken as the day either side, so the evening of November 9 works and is easier.

Does Scorpio season affect everyone or only Scorpios?

In the technique itself, the Sun's position through a sign is a shared condition, not a personal one. Whether this season contacts your own chart depends on which house Scorpio governs for you and whether you have placements in the degrees being crossed — particularly the middle degrees of the fixed signs. Sun-sign alone is the least informative factor.

Are the scorpion, eagle and phoenix really the three symbols of Scorpio?

The eagle and the serpent are genuinely old associations with this region of sky, going back to Babylonian star lore and reinforced by the overlapping constellation Ophiuchus. The three-stage developmental sequence — scorpion rising to eagle rising to phoenix — is a modern interpretive layer from theosophically-influenced astrology of the last century or so. Useful as a frame, but not ancient.

Should I avoid making decisions during Scorpio season 2026?

No. The traditional advice attached to the retrogrades is to be slower about finalising aesthetic choices and binding agreements, and to expect to revisit things. That is a description of a quality of time, not a prohibition, and there is no evidence that outcomes differ. Postponing six weeks of your life on astrological grounds is not something we would recommend.
