Obsidian brings things up faster than most stones, which is wonderful and also a lot. Start with ten minutes rather than an afternoon, and keep something gentler — Selenite, Rose Quartz — within reach for afterward. Shadow work goes better with a soft landing.

Is Black Obsidian actually a crystal?
Technically no. It is volcanic glass, formed when lava cools so rapidly that crystals never have time to form. It is one of the few stones with no crystalline structure at all.
Why is it called a stone of truth?
Its mirror-like surface is matched by its energy: Obsidian cuts through illusion and self-deception and reflects situations back with unusual clarity.
Is it good for beginners?
It is powerful and direct rather than gentle. Many people work with it in shorter sessions and pair it with a softer stone such as Selenite.
