The hardest part of learning tarot is not memorising 78 cards — it is finding a deck whose pictures actually say something to you, so that the meanings arrive before the book does.

This is Lindsay Squire's Tarot Magick Deck, illustrated by Viki Lester of Forensics and Flowers. It is built on the Rider-Waite system, which means every beginner resource in existence applies to it, and it comes with a guidebook of card meanings and spreads. Experienced readers get a familiar structure in unfamiliar, softer imagery; beginners get a deck that does not require a second book.

At a glance

  • 78-card tarot deck based on the Rider-Waite system
  • Created by The Witch of the Forest (Lindsay Squire)
  • Illustrated by Viki Lester of Forensics and Flowers
  • Paper guidebook included with card meanings and spreads
  • Card size: 10.6 x 6.2 cm (4.2 x 2.4 in)
  • Suitable for beginners and experienced readers alike
  • More decks, books and tools in Tarot, Books & Divination

How to use it

  • Start with one card a day. Pull in the morning, write one sentence, check the guidebook in the evening. Two weeks of this beats a month of reading about tarot.
  • Use the guidebook as a second opinion, not a first one. Look at the picture, say what you see, then read the entry.
  • Learn three spreads, not thirty. One card, three cards, and one larger spread you like. The guidebook includes spreads to start from.
  • Keep the deck somewhere you will reach it — a drawer by the kettle beats a shelf you admire.
  • Shuffle however you like. There is no wrong method; consistency matters more than technique.

✨ Temple Tip — write the sentence before you read the entry

The single habit that turns a tarot owner into a tarot reader: before opening the guidebook, write one sentence about what the card shows and how it lands today. Do it for thirty cards and you will have built your own deck-specific vocabulary — which is the thing no book can give you.

Questions we get asked

Is this deck good for beginners?
Yes. It is based on the Rider-Waite system and ships with a guidebook of meanings and spreads, so it works as a first deck as well as an addition to a collection.
How many cards are in the deck?
78 — the full tarot structure of 22 Major Arcana and 56 Minor Arcana.
Does it include a guidebook?
Yes, a printed paper guidebook with card meanings and spreads is included.
How big are the cards?
10.6 x 6.2 cm (4.2 x 2.4 in), which handles comfortably for most shuffling styles.
What is the Rider-Waite system?
The illustrated tarot structure most modern decks and nearly all beginner resources are built on. A deck that follows it means any tarot book you pick up will match what is in your hands.

In short

The Tarot Magick Deck is a 78-card tarot deck by Lindsay Squire, known as The Witch of the Forest, illustrated by Viki Lester of Forensics and Flowers. It follows the Rider-Waite system and includes a paper guidebook with card meanings and spreads; cards measure 10.6 x 6.2 cm. Readers use it for daily single-card pulls and standard spreads, and beginners can work from the included guidebook without a second reference. The deck and guidebook ship together for $26.95. The imagery is softer and more illustrative than classic Rider-Waite artwork, so the symbols are reinterpreted rather than reproduced.
