Three stones in one. Tiger iron is a natural blend of tiger's eye, hematite and red jasper, banded together in layers of gold, dark metallic grey and deep red — which is why no two pieces look alike and why the polished surface has that shifting, striped depth.

The traditional associations follow the mix. Tiger's eye brings courage, hematite brings grounding, red jasper brings vitality, and together tiger iron has long been described as a protector and a motivator: a stone for balance and stability through demanding stretches.

At a glance

  • A natural blend of tiger's eye, hematite and red jasper
  • Size 20–30 mm, polished
  • Origin: Africa
  • Distinct banding in gold, grey and red — every piece different
  • Traditionally associated with courage, resilience, grounding and creative drive

How to use it

  • Carry it in a pocket where your hand naturally finds it during the day.
  • Reach for it deliberately rather than leaving it to work in the background — the contact is the point.
  • Rest it on your altar or in a bowl on the days you do not feel called to carry it.
  • Rinse it under cool water and dry it properly when it has been handled a lot.
  • Pass it on when you stop reaching for it. Forgetting it in a drawer is usually the signal.

The three stones in the blend

Component Traditionally associated with
Tiger's Eye Courage, confidence and clear sight
Hematite Grounding, stability and anchoring energy
Red Jasper Vitality, endurance and steady drive

✨ Temple Tip — hold it to the light to find the tiger's eye

The banding in tiger iron is easiest to read under a direct light source held at an angle. Tilt the stone slowly and the tiger's eye layers throw a moving golden sheen — chatoyancy, the same optical effect that gives cat's eye gems their name — while the hematite stays flatly metallic and the jasper stays matte red. It is the quickest way to see all three minerals at once.

Questions we get asked

What is tiger iron made of?
It is a natural combination of tiger's eye, hematite and red jasper banded together in one stone.
How big is it?
Between 20 and 30 millimeters.
Where does it come from?
Africa.
Will the banding look like the photographs?
Similar, but not identical. The proportion and pattern of the three minerals varies from piece to piece, which is the appeal of the stone.
Will I receive the exact stone pictured?
No. You will receive one stone, hand-selected by one of our Crystal Caretakers, similar in size and character to those photographed but naturally unique to itself.

A ritual object, not a remedy: The associations described here are traditions of association, not claims of physical or psychological effect, and nothing here is medical advice. Natural stone is never identical twice — color, pattern, veining and exact size vary from piece to piece, and you will receive one stone chosen for you rather than the exact stone photographed. Keep small stones away from young children and pets. Ships within 3 business days.

In short

Tiger Iron is a natural banded blend of tiger's eye, hematite and red jasper, sold by Sacred Crystals as a tumbled pocket stone measuring 20 to 30 mm and sourced from Africa. The layers show as gold, dark metallic grey and deep red, and the banding differs on every piece. Traditional associations follow the three components — courage from tiger's eye, grounding from hematite, vitality from red jasper — and the stone is carried as a pocket touchstone through demanding stretches. One stone costs $6.95. Banding patterns and proportions of the three minerals vary considerably from piece to piece.
