How to use it

Trim the wick to about a quarter inch before every burn — this is the single thing that decides whether a soy candle behaves.

Let the first burn go long enough for the melt pool to reach the edge of the glass. Soy remembers its first burn and will tunnel forever if you cut it short.

Burn it within sight, on a heat-safe surface, away from draughts, curtains, children and pets. Never leave a lit candle unattended.

Keep the vessel afterwards. The amber glass is recyclable and the paper labels come off, so it has an obvious second life on an altar or a shelf.

Soy burns cooler and slower than paraffin, which is why fifty hours is realistic here rather than optimistic. It also means the scent releases gently — give it fifteen or twenty minutes before you decide whether the room smells the way you wanted.
