This is a room-scale specimen. Twenty-five inches tall, sixteen across, ten deep — a Brazilian quartz cluster from Minas Gerais built around one extra-large central point with the smaller terminations of the cluster gathered at its base. It comes with a custom acrylic stand, which at this size is not an accessory but a structural requirement.

Minas Gerais has produced the world's great quartz for two centuries, and pieces of this scale with an intact dominant point are what the region is known for. It is the kind of specimen that determines the layout of a room rather than fitting into one.

How to use it

Plan the position before it arrives. A specimen at 25 inches with a 16-inch spread needs clearance on all sides, a surface that will take the weight without flexing, and — ideally — a spot where people walk past rather than one they have to go and look at. Corners kill pieces like this.

Light it from low and to one side. A cluster is a field of terminations at different angles, and the whole effect depends on those faces catching light independently. A single low-angle source produces far more sparkle than bright, even overhead lighting, which washes the entire piece flat.

✨ Temple Tip

Do not lift it by the big point. The dominant termination is the most visually important part of the cluster and the most mechanically vulnerable — always take the weight under the base or move it on the stand. This is a two-person object, whatever it looks like in a photograph.

Questions we get asked

Is the stand included?

Yes — a custom acrylic stand is supplied with the specimen and is sized specifically for it.

How heavy is it?

Rare Earth Gallery do not publish a weight for this piece, only the dimensions. At 10 by 16 by 25 inches of solid quartz it is substantial; plan on two people to place it and a surface that can carry the load.

Is this the exact cluster pictured?

Yes. A specimen at this scale is unique and is sold as photographed.

Where is it from?

Minas Gerais, Brazil — the region that has supplied most of the world's fine quartz clusters.

How do I clean something this size?

A soft dry brush between the terminations, worked from the base outward. Avoid water pooling in the cluster; if you must use a damp cloth on the point, dry it immediately.

Twenty-five inches out of Minas Gerais — the piece the rest of the room arranges itself around.
