The Anahi Mine in the Santa Cruz department of Bolivia is one of the few amethyst localities collectors name out loud. It is the source of ametrine — the bicolor amethyst-citrine that occurs almost nowhere else — and its amethyst carries the same reputation for saturated, deeply zoned purple.

These are the large points: around 5.5 inches by 3 by 5, and roughly 3.25 pounds each. Three individual pieces are offered and you choose one at checkout. At this weight they stand on their own and carry a shelf by themselves.

How to use it

Set it where light comes from the side or slightly behind. Amethyst zoning is concentrated toward the termination, and light raking across the crystal makes the darker purple bands separate from the paler body — front lighting flattens the whole thing to one colour.

Keep it out of direct sunlight. Amethyst is the classic light-fading mineral, and a piece this size represents enough investment to be worth the care. A lamp is fine; a south-facing windowsill over a year is not.

✨ Temple Tip

Named-locality pieces are worth labelling. Keep a small card with the specimen recording the Anahi Mine and Santa Cruz Department — provenance is the first thing lost when a collection changes hands, and it is the thing that separates a large amethyst from a documented one.

Questions we get asked

What is the Anahi Mine known for?

It is the principal world source of ametrine, the naturally bicolor amethyst-citrine quartz, and it produces well-zoned amethyst alongside it. It sits in the Santa Cruz Department of eastern Bolivia.

Which of the three pieces will I get?

The one you select at checkout — Form 1, 2 or 3, each photographed individually. The stated dimensions and weight are approximate per piece.

How large is it, in practice?

Around 5.5 by 3 by 5 inches and about 3.25 pounds. Large enough to be the single object on a shelf rather than one of several.

Will the colour fade?

Only under sustained direct sunlight, which is the one thing to avoid. Under normal indoor lighting the purple is stable.

Does it stand up on its own?

At this size and shape, yes. The pieces are cut or broken with a base that lets them stand upright.

A named locality, a serious size, and purple that deepens toward the tip.

In short

The Bolivian Amethyst Point is a large amethyst crystal from the Anahi Mine in the Santa Cruz department of Bolivia, sold by Rare Earth Gallery. The Anahi Mine is best known as the source of ametrine, the bicolor amethyst-citrine that occurs almost nowhere else, and its amethyst carries the same saturated, deeply zoned purple. Each point measures roughly 5.5 x 3 x 5 inches and weighs about 3.25 pounds, heavy enough to stand on its own and carry a shelf by itself. The price is $367.95, and the individual pieces are listed separately so a specific one is chosen at checkout. Colour zoning is concentrated toward the termination and differs between pieces, so the individual forms are not interchangeable.
