Druze is the crust — the field of small, tightly packed crystal terminations that lines the inside of an amethyst geode. Broken into a piece like this one, you get the interior surface as a landscape: hundreds of individual purple points catching light at slightly different angles, so the whole face glitters rather than reflects.

This is the medium grade from Brazil, five to eight inches across and up to 800 grams. Pieces are assorted, and you receive one of similar attributes to those pictured — which is how druze is always sold, because no two breaks from a geode are alike.

At a glance

  • Raw amethyst druze — natural crystal crust from a geode
  • Medium (MD) size — approximately 5–8 inches
  • Up to 800 g
  • From Brazil
  • Assorted pieces — you receive one of similar attributes to those pictured
  • Ships within 3 business days

How to use it

Angle the crystal face toward the light rather than laying it flat. Druze depends entirely on hundreds of tiny terminations each catching light separately; face up under a ceiling light it goes dull, tilted toward a window or a lamp it comes alive.

Keep it out of prolonged direct sunlight — amethyst fades, and a druze face with its enormous surface area fades faster than a solid crystal. If you want it lit, use a lamp rather than the sun.

✨ Temple Tip

Never brush a druze face with anything stiff. Those tiny terminations are the whole value of the piece and they snap off easily. To clean it, blow the dust off or use a very soft artist's brush held almost parallel to the surface — never pressed into it.

Questions we get asked

Will I receive the exact piece photographed?

No. This is an assorted listing: you will receive one piece of similar attributes to those pictured, within the stated size and weight range.

What does MD mean?

Medium — Rare Earth Gallery's size grade for this material, corresponding to roughly 5 to 8 inches and up to 800 grams.

What is the difference between druze and a geode?

A geode is the whole hollow nodule. Druze is the crystal crust lining it. This piece is a section of that crust rather than an intact geode.

Does the colour fade?

Amethyst is light-sensitive and will pale under sustained direct sunlight. Display it away from a south-facing window and the colour holds.

Can it stand upright?

Depends on the piece, since breaks vary. Many druze sections sit at a natural angle, which is usually the better display position anyway.

In short

The Brazilian Amethyst Druze is a broken section of amethyst geode crust sold by Rare Earth Gallery. Druze is the field of small, tightly packed crystal terminations that lines a geode's interior, so the face carries hundreds of purple points catching light at slightly different angles. This is the medium grade from Brazil, approximately 5 to 8 inches across and up to 800 grams. It costs $36.95, and one assorted piece is supplied, similar in attributes to those pictured. No two breaks from a geode are alike, so outline, depth of colour and crystal size differ from the photographs.
