Collection: Evening Ritual
Thirty-three pieces our makers place at the end of the day: evening smudge bundles, six crystal lamps, calming stones, body oils, floral incense and a brass candle snuffer. From $6.95.
In short: light smoke an hour before bed, not at bedtime, and let a lamp on its lowest setting be the last light on.

Evening ritual: what belongs in the last hour of the day
This page is sorted by hour, not by mood. Every piece on it says in its own product text that it belongs to the evening, the bedside or the wind-down, and several of them are precise about timing in a way that matters more than which herb or stone you pick. Read the four groups below as four ways into the same hour: smoke that has time to clear, light and scent without smoke, something to hold, and something to do with your hands while the screens are off.
Smoke, an hour before bed
The most useful instruction on this page is a timing one. The Midnight Bloom bundle ($7.95), black-dyed white sage with cedar and mullein, is “the evening bundle”, and its maker says to smudge “an hour before bed, not five minutes before” so the room can settle and the smoke can clear. The Mugwort bundle and the Mugwort & White Sage bundle ($7.95 each) carry the same rule: mugwort is the traditional dream herb, so burn it before you sleep, air the room, then close the window. For sticks, the Magnolia incense (30 hand-rolled sticks, $36.99) is named an evening scent outright, and fifteen to twenty minutes is plenty for a bedroom; the Botanical collection ($17.95 a box) says to save its clove rose for evenings; the Tibetan handmade incense ($12.95, hand-rolled in Nepal) is dry and woody rather than sweet, and its maker lists an evening wind-down among its uses. The Lavender box in the Herbal Gift Box ($72.95) holds four burn formats built on lavender, which its maker describes as the herb for settling a room. Whatever you burn, use a heat-proof dish, keep a window cracked and put it out fully before you go to sleep. The 4-inch lavender bundle is sold out at the moment.
Light and scent without smoke
If you cannot burn anything where you live, this page still works. Six crystal lamps are here, each on a remote with 30 light modes, and each maker describes it as an evening or bedside light. The Aura Spa Mood Lamp ($59.95, selenite with a Hamsa hand) comes with a simple rhythm: switch it on an hour before bed, screens off. Portal to Peace ($69.95, Brazilian amethyst) has a timer for the nights you fall asleep first, and the amethyst Stress Less, Sleep More halo lamp ($59.95) dims down to a night light. The Healing Lamp in clear quartz ($39.95) is soft enough to leave on all night. The Selenite Cleansing Lamp ($49.95) and the two-pound Cleanse-All Selenite Lamp ($69.95) also charge the stones you lay around their base overnight; keep selenite dry. For scent, the Palo Santo Cleansing Spray ($17.99) is a smokeless mist its maker suggests keeping by the bed; the hand-carved soapstone oil burner ($42.95, 3.5 inches, one tealight, oils sold separately) is built for a nightstand; The Moon oil candle (from $25.95, eucalyptus and lavender, refillable) is for “when the evening needs to slow down before sleep does”; and the Healing Ritual Candle ($17.99, lavender vanilla, up to 50 hours) is best lit at seven rather than eleven. To end the burn, the Anka candle snuffer ($80.95, brass-finished steel and white marble, Fair Trade) puts a flame out without smoke or scattered wax.
Something to hold, something to wear
The cheapest way onto this page is the Howlite Comfort Stone ($6.95), a flat oval with a thumb indentation, traditionally kept on the nightstand or under the pillow. The Calm Trio ($8.99) of amethyst, apatite and howlite is meant to sit on the nightstand as part of winding down. The Amethyst Palm Stone ($14.95) is weighted for the hand; keep it out of sun, which fades amethyst. The Chevron Amethyst point ($19.95) shows the white V-bands of amethyst grown with quartz, and The Cleansing Stone in fluorite ($17.95) is used, on its maker’s advice, for a gratitude practice before bed. On the skin: the Black Obsidian Body Oil (amber and vanilla, from $9.95 for 1 oz) is the one “people tend to reach for at night”, the Blue Lotus Body Oil (from $14.99) is “the bottle for the end of the day”, and the Healing Ritual Oil ($8.99, 1/2 oz) belongs by the bed, a dab on the wrists. The Rose & Lavender Wildflower Bar ($8.95) is soap for the last twenty minutes before bed. The selenite tumbled stone is sold out at the moment.
Screens off, hands busy
Some evenings need an occupation rather than an object. The Animal Mandala Coloring Book ($15.95, 100 designs, 8 x 10 in) works best at a page a night, not a book a weekend. The Original Turmeric Latte ($44.95) is a caffeine-free golden milk blend, the evening counterpart to a morning matcha. Two evening pieces are sold out at the moment: the Calm the F Down bath soak and a children’s yoga book meant for bedtime reading.

Frequently asked questions
When should I burn a smudge bundle or incense before bed?
About an hour before, not as you get into bed. The Midnight Bloom and mugwort bundles both say so: the smoke needs time to clear and the window needs time to be closed again. Put the bundle out completely in a heat-proof dish, and never leave anything burning while you sleep.
Which scents belong in the evening, and which do not?
Soft florals, lavender, mugwort and dry, woody incense are the evening scents here: magnolia, clove rose, lavender and Tibetan incense. Citrus, eucalyptus and camphor are waking scents; save them for the morning.
Can I leave a crystal lamp on all night?
Several are made for it. The Healing Lamp is soft enough to leave on all night, the Stress Less halo lamp is often used as a night light on its lowest mode, and Portal to Peace has a timer. Keep selenite lamps dry and away from water.
What if I cannot use smoke where I live?
Start with a lamp, the smokeless Palo Santo Cleansing Spray, a body oil or the soapstone oil burner. None of them makes smoke, and the lamps need nothing but a plug.
What is the cheapest way to start an evening ritual?
The Howlite Comfort Stone at $6.95, kept on the nightstand, or The Calm Trio at $8.99. Hold one while you breathe slowly for a few minutes before bed; the ritual is the repetition, not the price.
Will any of this help me sleep?
We do not claim that. Lavender, mugwort, amethyst and howlite have long traditional associations with rest and dreaming, but these are traditions, not medical effects. If sleep is a persistent problem, talk to a doctor.
Traditional associations are described as traditions. Nothing on this page is a sleep aid or a medical claim.
