Tibetan incense does not smell like the incense most people grew up with. There is no sweet perfume layer on top — it is drier, woodier and more mineral, closer to the smell of a cold room that has been in use for a very long time. The first stick tends to divide a household. The tenth tends to unite it.

This is handmade in Nepal, hand-rolled rather than dipped, and each pack holds 97 grams in assorted scents. Because it is rolled by hand from ground material rather than coated onto a bamboo core, it burns without that sharp charcoal note and leaves less ash behind.

At a Glance

  • Handmade in Nepal in the Tibetan tradition
  • Hand-rolled — no bamboo core, no dipped coating
  • 97 g per pack
  • Assorted scents
  • Dry, woody smoke rather than sweet perfume
  • Suits cleansing, meditation and long working sessions

How to Use It

Hand-rolled incense burns differently from stick incense. It wants a little more attention at the start and considerably less afterwards.

  1. Set a heatproof holder, dish or bowl of sand on a stable surface, away from anything that can catch.
  2. Light the tip and let the flame take hold for a few seconds longer than you would with a dipped stick.
  3. Blow it out. You want a steady ember, not a flame — if the ember dies, relight it, it is normal.
  4. Leave the room for two minutes, then come back. Tibetan incense is better met than watched.
  5. Let it burn down fully in the holder. Never leave burning incense unattended or within reach of children and pets.

When to Reach For It

Moment Why
Before meditation The dry smoke marks the start without sweetening the room
After a difficult conversation Traditional use: clearing a space that feels used up
Start of a work block A timer you can smell
Evening wind-down Low, warm and unfussy

✨ Temple Tip

Burn it with a window cracked rather than a window open. A full draught pulls the smoke straight out and you lose the whole point; a two-finger gap keeps the air moving and the room breathable.
