Collection: Oil Candle Trios
Three refillable glass oil candles sold as one set — four zodiac element trios and six deity trios from LOGOS. Clean bio fuel, botanicals in the reservoir, one size (3, 6 or 12 oz) across all three. In short: buy a trio for the pairing, not the price — a set costs within two dollars of three singles.

Buying an oil candle trio
An oil candle is not a wax candle in a different shape. The wick sits in a brass collar above a reservoir of clean liquid fuel, so the flame draws fuel upward instead of melting a block of wax around itself. Nothing is consumed except the fuel: the glass keeps its shape from the first burn to the hundredth, and the dried botanicals suspended in the reservoir stay exactly where they are. The bottle is the durable good; the fuel is the consumable. That single fact governs every decision on this page — including the one most buyers get wrong, which is assuming a set of three must be a bulk deal. All ten trios here are made by LOGOS, all ten are in stock in all three sizes, and all ten cost the same: $75.95 at 3 oz, $113.95 at 6 oz, $189.95 at 12 oz.
The trio is curation, not a discount
This is worth saying plainly, because set pricing usually implies a saving and here it does not. A single LOGOS candle from the oil candle shelf costs $25.95 at 3 oz, $37.95 at 6 oz and $63.95 at 12 oz. The trios cost $75.95, $113.95 and $189.95 for three. Run the arithmetic and the picture is flat: at 3 oz the set saves $1.90 against three singles, at 12 oz it saves the same $1.90, and at 6 oz the set is ten cents more expensive than buying the three candles separately. What you are paying for is the pairing — which three belong together and why — not a bulk rate. If you only want two of the three, buy singles and keep the difference.
Where the saving actually sits: size, not quantity
The real lever on this page is the size selector, and it does not behave the way you would expect either. Measured by fuel, the 12 oz trio is the clear winner: 36 oz of oil for $189.95 works out at $5.28 an ounce against $8.44 at 3 oz, so you are buying four times the oil for two and a half times the money — 37.5% cheaper per ounce. Measured by burn time, that advantage evaporates. Using the burn ranges LOGOS prints on nine of the ten listings (10–15 hours per 3 oz candle, 20–25 at 6 oz, 35–40 at 12 oz), the 6 oz trio and the 12 oz trio both land at about $1.69 per hour of flame, while the 3 oz trio costs about $2.03. In other words the entire per-hour saving is captured by the single step from 3 oz to 6 oz; going on to 12 oz buys you more oil per dollar but no more burning per dollar, because the larger sizes consume fuel faster per hour. Choose 12 oz if you want fewer refills and a heavier object on the altar. Choose 6 oz if you want the best rate per hour of use. Choose 3 oz if it is a gift, or if shelf space is the constraint.
Which of the ten trios
Two families sit in this category, and they call for different reasoning. Four zodiac element trios gather the three signs of one element. The Fire Trio is Aries, Leo and Sagittarius (Blood Orange, Citrus & Amber, Azure Coast) — the set for the front of a project or a morning that needs pushing, and one of two trios on this page that also sits on the morning ritual shelf. The Earth Trio is Virgo, Capricorn and Taurus (Water Lily, Frosted Juniper, White Peach Blossom), built for routines and slow work, and LOGOS's own note is to light it on ordinary evenings rather than dramatic ones. The Air Trio is Gemini, Aquarius and Libra (White Sage & Lavender, Ozonic Element, Rose Garden), the one for journaling, planning and difficult emails. The Water Trio is Scorpio, Pisces and Cancer (Cinnamon Apple, Ocean Breeze, Sea Salt & Orchid) and is the quietest set LOGOS makes — all three fragrances are meant to be sat with rather than noticed. Every one of those twelve signs is also stocked as a single on the zodiac candle shelf, so these sets are pure convenience: straightforward gifts, and the obvious pick for anyone who already works with one element. If you are buying for a birthday, the season articles on Libra season and Scorpio season are the current ones.
The six deity and theme trios are a different proposition, because they are largely the only way to get the candles inside them. Of the eighteen figures across those six sets, just three — Helios, Aphrodite and Hekate — are also sold individually. The other fifteen exist only as part of a set. The Sacred Space Trio (Helios, Selene, Hestia; Orange, Blue Capri, Black Chamomile) maps onto the hours of a day rather than a mood — sunrise, moonrise, hearth — and is the most practical starting point; it is the other trio here that doubles as a morning ritual. The Oracle Trio (Athena, Hekate, Hermes; Egyptian Amber, Black Amber Fig, Lemon Verbena) is built for divination and study, and pairs naturally with the oracle card and Hekate's Deipnon articles. The Truth & Transformation Trio (Nemesis, Medusa, Eris; Cyprus, Oakmoss & Amber, Apple) is explicitly a shadow-work set and reads heavier than the rest — resinous rather than floral, and better suited to a notebook than a bath; the golden shadow piece is the gentler way into the same territory. The Abundance Altar Trio (Demeter, Dionysus, Rhea; Cinnamon Apple, Black Raspberry Vanilla, Wildflower Breeze) is the seasonal one — LOGOS names equinoxes, harvest suppers and the end of a good quarter — and sits on the abundance and prosperity shelf; the fall equinox and pagan Thanksgiving guides are where it earns its keep. The Self-Care Trio (Aphrodite, Persephone, Artemis; Love Spell, Pomegranate Cider, Cinnamon Chai) is for softness, transition and boundaries, and lives under healing and comfort. The Reclaim Your Power Trio (Zeus, Hera, Ares; Peach Sandalwood, Dahlia Noir, Cinnamon Chai) is the assertive one — warm, resinous and spiced, to be lit before the thing rather than after — and it is the only trio on the strength and courage shelf.
Pick by scent if the theme does not decide it
Because every trio costs the same, the honest tie-breaker is often the fragrance list rather than the mythology. The ten split roughly into four moods. Citrus and bright: Fire, Sacred Space (Helios is Orange), Oracle (Hermes is Lemon Verbena). Green and floral: Earth, Air, Water. Warm and spiced: Reclaim Your Power, Self-Care and Abundance Altar — note that Cinnamon Chai appears in both Reclaim Your Power (Ares) and Self-Care (Artemis), and Cinnamon Apple in both Water (Scorpio) and Abundance Altar (Demeter), so if you already own one of those pairs you will be doubling a scent. Resinous and dark: Truth & Transformation, and the amber side of Oracle. If you are choosing between a deity trio and a crystal-topped wax candle, crystal candles versus deity candles lays out the trade.
How to run them, and what to look for
Because the flame never touches the botanicals, an oil candle is a slow, level scent rather than a loud one, and it rewards being lit on purpose instead of left burning as decoration. A trio is designed to be lit together, but nothing breaks if you do not: most people find one of the three does the heavy lifting in a given month while the other two wait their turn. If you keep an altar in a room you share, the low, steady flame of an oil candle is easier to live with than a heavily fragranced jar — there is more on working an altar in shared space in the magazine, the five things an altar actually needs is the place to start if you have none, and the tradition behind devotional oils is worth reading before you pick a deity set. Oil candles are still an open flame, so a dorm or a no-candle lease rules them out along with wax — the no-candle altar guide covers the alternatives.
On quality: look for a wick collar that seats firmly and a reservoir of genuinely clear fuel. Cloudiness usually signals a cheaper paraffin blend that will soot the glass. LOGOS uses a clean bio fuel and suspends whole dried botanicals rather than fragments. Trim nothing — there is no wick to trim in the wax-candle sense — but fill to just below the shoulder, let the wicks soak before the first lighting, snuff rather than blow out, and keep the candle out of drafts, because a guttering flame on an oil candle darkens glass quickly. Refill before a bottle runs dry: a wick left to burn down into an empty reservoir chars, and a charred wick never lights cleanly again. If you read your flames, what a flame is doing and why a candle burns black both apply here, though on an oil candle soot is far more often a draft than a message. For timing a working around the lunar cycle, see the new moon candle cycle; if a sitting gets cut short, what to do when a ritual is interrupted applies to a snuffed oil candle exactly as it does to wax.
You will also want somewhere to stand them. Three candles of one size look best on a single surface rather than scattered; our candle holders are taper holders and lanterns rather than trays, so for a trio the more useful stops are the bowls, trays and vases shelf and the wider ritual candles range. Every trio here also belongs to the parent ritual candles category; the zodiac four additionally sit under zodiac candles, and most of the ten are filed by purpose as well — calm and grounding (Sacred Space, Earth), clarity and intuition (Air, Water) and banishing and road opening (Truth & Transformation), alongside the abundance, healing and strength shelves named above. Oracle is the one trio filed nowhere but here and under ritual candles.
Candles and their associated symbolism are traditionally used for reflection, focus and ritual practice. These associations are cultural and traditional rather than scientifically established, and nothing here replaces medical, legal or financial advice. Never leave a burning candle unattended, keep it away from drafts and anything flammable, and place it on a heat-resistant surface.
Frequently asked questions
Is an oil candle trio cheaper than buying three single oil candles?
Barely, and at one size not at all. A single LOGOS oil candle is $25.95 (3 oz), $37.95 (6 oz) or $63.95 (12 oz). Three 3 oz singles come to $77.85 against $75.95 for the trio, a saving of $1.90. At 12 oz the saving is the same $1.90 on a far larger total. At 6 oz, three singles cost $113.85 and the trio costs $113.95 — ten cents more. Buy a trio for the pairing, not for the price.
Can I choose different sizes for the three candles in a trio?
No. The size you select applies to all three candles in the set. If you want one large candle for the altar and two smaller ones beside it, buy three singles instead — at almost the same money you keep the freedom to mix sizes.
How long does each oil candle burn?
Nine of the ten listings give roughly 10–15 hours at 3 oz, 20–25 hours at 6 oz and 35–40 hours at 12 oz, per candle. The Oracle Trio listing is slightly more conservative at 10–12 and 18–22 hours for the two smaller sizes. All of these are LOGOS's own figures, vary with drafts and how long you burn at a stretch, and are refill intervals rather than a lifespan: the candle is a refillable glass reservoir, so nothing is used up except the fuel.
What do I refill an oil candle with?
A clean liquid lamp fuel or bio fuel made for indoor oil lamps. We do not currently stock refill fuel, so plan to source it separately. Do not use cooking oil, neat essential oils, or the paraffin lamp oil sold for outdoor torches — the first two will not draw properly up the wick and the third is not intended for indoor air.
Do oil candles smell as strong as a scented wax candle?
No, and that is the design. The flame sits above the fuel rather than inside a melting wax pool, so scent arrives softly and holds level across the whole burn instead of peaking in the first hour. If you want a candle that scents a room quickly, an oil candle is the wrong tool.
Can I buy the individual candles from a deity trio separately?
Mostly not. Across the six deity and theme trios, eighteen figures appear — and only three of them (Helios, Aphrodite and Hekate) are also sold as singles. Nemesis, Medusa, Eris, Selene, Hestia, Zeus, Hera, Ares, Demeter, Dionysus, Rhea, Persephone, Artemis, Athena and Hermes exist only inside their sets. The four zodiac element trios are the opposite case: all twelve signs are stocked individually.
