Choosing an intention candle
All eight candles on this page come from one line, the CIRCE Spell Candle Collection, hand-poured in small batches. The build never changes: an 8 oz coconut soy wax blend, a cotton wick, up to fifty hours of burn, and a plain jar. What changes from candle to candle is the trio inside it — a scent, a herb and a crystal, chosen together for one named purpose. That is the whole selection problem. You are not comparing quality between them; you are choosing a purpose.
The eight, and what is in each
Money Drawing — watermelon basil, basil and vervain, citrine. Good Fortune — nectarine and white ginger, chamomile, citrine; the luck candle rather than the wealth candle, and the only one at $18.95. Love & Attraction — apple cinnamon, rose petals, strawberry quartz, written as much for self-love as for romance. Healing — lavender vanilla, lavender and chamomile, amethyst; the unwinding candle. Fiery Wall of Protection — cedarwood essential oil, cloves, black obsidian, for boundaries. Spiritual Cleansing — cedarwood sage, crushed sage, tiger’s eye, for clearing a room or the residue of a day. Home Blessing — sandalwood amber, rosemary and thyme, aquamarine; the housewarming candle. Road Opener — coconut and lemongrass, lemon balm, clear quartz, for the situation that has stalled rather than the decision that is pending.
Two pairs that are easy to confuse
Money Drawing and Good Fortune both carry citrine and both read as prosperity, but they are aimed differently. Money Drawing is for naming a figure and working toward it; Good Fortune is for luck and opportunity in general. If you are weighing those two against each other, our magazine takes the distinction apart in success work vs. money work and again in road opener or money candle, which is the other pair people mix up: Road Opener is for a situation that will not move, not for a shortfall you want to close.
Spiritual Cleansing and Fiery Wall of Protection are the second pair. Cleansing removes what is already in the room; protection sets a line against what is not. The traditional order is cleansing first, protection second — explained at length in the uncrossing, banishing and protection order. The Fiery Wall formula itself has a long and specific history, covered in the origins of the Fiery Wall of Protection.
Two of these stones you cannot buy loose here
Eight candles carry seven different stones — citrine appears twice, in Money Drawing and Good Fortune. Five of the seven are also on the shelf as loose stones, and cheaply: tiger’s eye pebbles at $1.95, amethyst and black obsidian at $4.95, citrine at $6.95, clear quartz at $8.95, with the rest of the range in Tumbled & Pocket Stones.
Two are not. Strawberry quartz and aquamarine are not sold separately anywhere in this shop — the Love & Attraction candle and the Home Blessing candle are the only way to get them here. If you have been looking for either stone specifically, that is worth knowing before you compare candles on scent. When the wax is gone, the stone comes out and joins your collection; how to cleanse crystals covers what to do with it next.
The same intention at three prices
Circe Boutique makes most of these intentions in more than one form, and the jar candle sits in the middle of the range rather than at the top of it. A half-ounce anointing oil is $10 — Money Magnet, Come To Me, Road Opener, Healing, Peaceful Home, Good Luck. A 2 oz mist is also $10, in Love Attraction, Money and Road Opener. The full ranges sit in Ritual Oils and Ritual Sprays.
These are not competing purchases so much as different jobs. An oil dresses a candle, anoints a hand or a doorframe and travels in a pocket; how to dress a candle with oil is the practical guide, and buying the matching oil alongside the candle is the cheapest way to deepen a working. A mist changes a room in seconds and leaves nothing burning. The candle is the one that asks you to sit down for the length of it, which is usually the point.
Four of the eight also exist as 7-day vigil candles
Road Opener, Fiery Wall of Protection, Money Drawing and Love Drawing are all available as $11.95 seven-day vigils from a different maker — Road Opener, Fiery Wall of Protection, Money Drawing and Love Drawing, with the rest in 7-Day Vigil Candles. Healing, Good Fortune, Spiritual Cleansing and Home Blessing exist only in the jar format.
The difference is the shape of the burn, not the strength of it. A vigil is lit once and runs continuously for roughly a week — a working with a start and an end, which suits a deadline. A jar candle gives you around fifty hours to spend in half-hour sittings across a season. Choose by how your practice actually runs. If you want a date rather than a rhythm, the best time for a spell is the piece to read first; how to write a petition paper covers what many people put under the jar.
What the price actually buys
Eighteen dollars for up to fifty hours is roughly thirty-six cents an hour. A seven-day vigil from this shop runs closer to seven to ten cents an hour, and a 16 oz crystal altar candle around twenty-one. So an intention candle is not the cheapest light here, and it is not meant to be. What the money buys is a candle built end to end for one purpose and a stone that outlives it. If burn time per dollar is genuinely the deciding factor, the vigil candles are the honest answer, and everything cheap sits in Candles Under $20. The whole range is in Ritual Candles.
Two habits that decide how well it burns
Let the first burn run until the melted wax reaches the edge of the glass — a couple of unhurried hours. Wax has a memory, and a short first burn tunnels the candle permanently, wasting the ring of wax against the jar. Then trim the cotton wick to a quarter of an inch before every lighting, not just the first; an untrimmed wick is the single most common reason a clean candle starts to smoke and soot the glass, which is the whole subject of why your candle burns black. Keep it level, away from drafts, children and pets, and stop burning at half an inch of wax. When it is spent, what to do with leftover ritual wax covers the end of it, and candle flame meanings covers what people read into the burn along the way.
Candles, herbs and crystals are traditionally used for focus, intention and reflection. Those are traditional uses rather than scientifically established effects, and nothing on this page replaces medical, legal or financial advice.
Frequently asked questions
What is an intention candle, and how is it different from a scented candle?
The build is much the same — coconut soy wax, a cotton wick, an 8 oz jar. What differs is that the scent, the herb and the crystal were chosen together for one named purpose, and that the candle is sold under that purpose rather than under a fragrance name. Practically, you buy it by what you intend to do, not by what you want the room to smell like, and there is a stone left over at the end.
Which one should I start with?
Spiritual Cleansing or Home Blessing. Both are general-purpose: cleansing for clearing a room or a heavy day, home blessing for settling a new space. The other six are aimed at a specific situation, and a specific candle is worth buying when you actually have that situation rather than in advance of it.
Should I let it burn all the way down, or can I put it out?
Put it out. Fifty hours is far too long to leave anything burning unattended, and no practice worth following asks you to. The usual distinction is between snuffing and blowing out: snuffing is treated as a pause, so the work continues next time you light it, while blowing out is treated as closing the working. Either way, stop when about half an inch of wax remains rather than burning the jar dry.
Does the crystal melt or burn away, and what do I do with it afterwards?
It does not melt. The stone sits on and in the surface of the wax, well away from the flame, so when the wax is gone the crystal is yours to keep along with the jar. Let the glass cool completely, lift the stone out, rinse the wax off with warm water and put it into rotation with the rest of your stones.
These intentions also come as oils, mists and 7-day candles. Which one do I want?
Different jobs rather than different strengths. A $10 half-ounce oil dresses a candle, anoints a doorframe or travels with you. A $10 two-ounce mist changes a room in seconds with nothing left burning. A $11.95 seven-day vigil is one continuous week-long flame, suited to a working with a deadline — four of these eight intentions exist in that format. The 8 oz jar is the one that gives you fifty hours to spend across many separate sittings.
What does it work out to per hour?
At $18 for up to fifty hours, about thirty-six cents an hour. That is more than a seven-day vigil candle costs per hour, which is nearer seven to ten cents, and more than a 16 oz crystal altar candle at around twenty-one. You are not buying burn time here; you are buying a single-purpose build and a stone that outlasts it.
Are they scented strongly enough to fill a room?
They are scented, but moderately — natural fragrance oils in a fifty-hour pour. If you burn incense or resin alongside your candles, expect the two to meet rather than one to win. If you want no scent at all, the unscented crystal candles are the page to look at instead.
