How to use it
Use it for dry things: rings and jewellery overnight, tumbled stones, crystal points, matches, small offerings, a folded note. Place a candle beside it rather than inside it and the bowl lights up from the rim down.
Never put water, oils or anything damp in a selenite bowl. This is the one thing that will ruin it — gypsum is water-soluble, so a wet item left sitting in it will etch a mark into the base that does not come out. Dust with a dry cloth only.

Rest it on felt or a cloth mat rather than directly on wood or stone. Selenite is soft enough that the rim will pick up marks from a hard surface over time, and the base of a bowl takes constant small movements every time you reach into it.
Questions we get asked
Can I put water in it?
No — and this matters more for a bowl than for any other selenite object, because a bowl invites it. Selenite is a soft gypsum mineral — it scratches easily and it does not like water. Dust it with a dry, soft cloth and keep it away from sinks, windowsills that catch rain, and damp bathrooms. Never soak or rinse it.
Can I burn a candle in it?
We would not place a candle inside the bowl. Wax and heat both cause problems on a soft mineral surface, and dripping wax is very difficult to remove from selenite. Set the candle beside it instead.
Is this the exact bowl pictured?
No — it is sold individually from a batch. You will receive one bowl of similar attributes to those shown, between 5.5 and 6.25 inches. This is natural stone, so no two pieces are identical. Colour, banding and internal inclusions vary from the photographs — that variation is the point of buying a natural specimen rather than a manufactured object.
Does it really glow?
The walls are translucent, so light passes through them. Beside a candle or a lamp the effect is genuine and quite pronounced; in flat daylight it reads as a soft white dish.
How do I clean it?
A dry, soft cloth. Nothing damp, no cleaning products, and no rinsing under a tap.
