A skull on a shelf is not morbid. It is a reminder with a face — the oldest way of saying that the day in front of you is finite and therefore worth something.

Each one is carved from a single piece of natural stone and stands 1.5 to 2 inches tall: small enough for a bookshelf, heavy enough at 95–110 g to feel like an object rather than an ornament. The stone list runs from black obsidian to strawberry quartz.

Skulls work best when they are placed once and then left alone.

  4. Dust with a dry soft brush; carved detail traps dust faster than a smooth stone.
  5. Keep softer stones such as lepidolite out of long direct sunlight.
