A handpan is the rare instrument that sounds finished the moment an untrained hand touches it. Nine notes, all in the same scale, arranged so that your palms fall naturally onto something that works — the instrument does the theory so you can pay attention to the playing.
This Sensory Handpan is tuned to Bb2 Amara, a minor scale with a soft, contemplative character that suits meditation far better than it suits showing off. It is formed from premium stainless steel and finished in vintage copper with an engraved design, and it arrives fully kitted: padded carrying bag, stainless steel protection cover, velvet bag, sound tubes and gloves.

How to use it
Sit with the handpan on your lap, slightly tilted away from you, and let your hands hover. You play a handpan with relaxed fingertips and a bounce off the surface — never with a flat, pressing palm, and never with a mallet.
Find the centre note (the ding) and play only that for a minute. Then alternate ding and one outer note. That two-note pattern is the root of almost every handpan piece you have ever heard.
Wear the supplied gloves if you are playing for a long stretch, and wipe the surface afterwards. Handpans rust from skin oils, not from weather — the protection cover and velvet bag exist for exactly that reason.

✨ Temple Tip
Play the centre note nine times slowly before you play anything else, every time you pick it up. It tunes your hands to the instrument's rebound, and it turns practice into a ritual instead of a warm-up.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need musical experience?
No. All nine notes belong to the Bb2 Amara scale, so anything you play is in key. Technique improves what you play; it is not needed to start.
What is the Amara scale?
Amara (sometimes called Celtic minor) is one of the most widely played handpan scales — minor, gentle and well suited to slow, meditative playing.
Can I use mallets?
No. Handpans are played with the hands. Mallets can dent the tone fields and will damage the tuning.
Will it rust?
Stainless steel is highly resistant, but skin oils and moisture are still the enemy. Wipe it down after playing, use the supplied gloves for long sessions, and store it in the cover and bag.
Is everything included to get started?
Yes — padded carrying bag, stainless steel protection cover, velvet bag, sound tubes and gloves ship with the instrument.
Nine notes, two hands, and nowhere else to be. #TempleOfDesire
