Full Moon Calendar 2027: Every Date, Time and Name

Full moon rising over a misty green meadow with a dark treeline on the horizon

Twelve full moons fall in 2027, and two of them land on a different calendar date in the United States than the date most moon calendars print. This page gives you every one — the exact peak in Eastern and Pacific time, the traditional name, the zodiac sign, and what the moon is actually doing that month.

Quick answer

There are 12 full moons in 2027, one per calendar month. The first is the Wolf Moon on Friday, January 22 at 7:17 a.m. Eastern (4:17 a.m. Pacific). The Flower Moon on May 20 is a seasonal Blue Moon, the third of four full moons in the spring season; there is no monthly Blue Moon in 2027. Two full moons peak on the evening before the date most calendars print, because those calendars publish Universal Time: the Strawberry Moon is June 18 in the US, not June 19, and the Beaver Moon is November 13, not November 14. 2027 also brings five eclipses, of which all three lunar eclipses are penumbral. Astronomical data on this page is calculated and cross-checked; the spiritual interpretation of lunar phases is tradition and is not scientifically established.

Quick answer

There are 12 full moons in 2027, one per calendar month. The first is the Wolf Moon on Friday, January 22 at 7:17 a.m. Eastern. The Flower Moon on May 20 is a seasonal Blue Moon. Two full moons — June and November — peak on the evening before the date most calendars list, because those calendars use UTC.

Every time below is the moment of peak fullness — the instant the Moon sits directly opposite the Sun. The Moon looks full to the eye for about a day on either side, so a peak at four in the morning is not a night you missed. Times are given in Eastern and Pacific, with Universal Time in the last column so you can convert to Mountain, Central, Alaska or Hawaii yourself.

Why two of these dates differ from other 2027 calendars

If you compare this table to most moon calendars, June and November will not match. Those calendars are not wrong — they are printing Universal Time, and nobody in the United States lives in it.

The Strawberry Moon peaks at 00:44 UTC on June 19. Subtract four hours for Eastern Daylight Time and you get 8:44 p.m. on June 18. The Beaver Moon peaks at 03:25 UTC on November 14, which is 10:25 p.m. on November 13 in Eastern Standard Time. Both are evening moons in the US, on the previous calendar day.

This matters if you are the kind of person who books the night off. Turn up on June 19 expecting the peak and you have arrived a day late — the moon was at its fullest the previous evening, which is exactly when you would have wanted to be outside anyway.

Temple Tip

Put the evening before each peak in your calendar rather than the peak itself. Nine of the twelve 2027 full moons reach their exact moment while the Sun is up somewhere in the US, so the night you can actually see and work with is usually the one before or the one after. The Moon is visibly full for roughly three nights; you are not chasing a single minute.

When is the first full moon of 2027?

The first full moon of 2027 is the Wolf Moon on Friday, January 22, peaking at 7:17 a.m. Eastern (4:17 a.m. Pacific). Because the peak falls after sunrise on the East Coast, the best viewing is the night of Thursday, January 21 into Friday morning, or Friday evening as the Moon rises again barely past full.

How many full moons are there in 2027?

Twelve — one in each calendar month, with no month doubling up. That is the ordinary pattern, and it means 2027 has no monthly Blue Moon. It does have thirteen new moons, because two fall in August (the 2nd and the 31st). The second of those is sometimes called a Black Moon, which is a popular calendar nickname rather than an astronomical term.

Is there a Blue Moon in 2027?

Yes, but not the kind most people mean. The Flower Moon on May 20 is a seasonal Blue Moon: the third of four full moons falling inside a single astronomical season. Spring 2027 runs from the March equinox to the June solstice and contains four full moons — March 22, April 20, May 20 and June 18 — so the May moon takes the title.

The more familiar definition, a second full moon inside one calendar month, does not occur in 2027. Both definitions are calendar arithmetic. Neither has anything to do with the Moon looking blue, which is a rare atmospheric effect caused by smoke or dust particles of a particular size.

Are there supermoons in 2027?

Sources disagree, and it is worth knowing why. "Supermoon" has no official astronomical definition — it is a term coined in 1979 for a full moon occurring near perigee, the closest point of the Moon's orbit, and different publishers draw the cutoff at different distances.

The January 22 Wolf Moon is counted as a supermoon by essentially everyone. The February 20 Snow Moon is counted by some sources and not others. If a calendar tells you 2027 has four supermoons, it is using a generous threshold. A moon at perigee appears roughly 7 percent wider than average, which is real but almost impossible to notice by eye without a side-by-side photograph.

What eclipses happen in 2027?

Five: two solar and three lunar. All three lunar eclipses are penumbral, meaning the Moon passes only through the outer, faint part of Earth's shadow. A penumbral eclipse is a subtle dimming, not the copper-red "blood moon" of a total lunar eclipse — most people looking up without knowing would not spot one.

Feb 6 — Annular solar eclipse
Visible from Argentina and Chile. Not visible from the United States.
Feb 20–21 — Penumbral lunar eclipse
Partly visible from most of North America, already underway at moonrise. Not visible from Alaska or the West Coast.
Jul 18 — Penumbral lunar eclipse
Coincides with the Buck Moon.
Aug 2 — Total solar eclipse
The long one: up to 6 minutes 22 seconds of totality near Luxor, Egypt. The path crosses southern Spain, North Africa and the Middle East — not the United States.
Aug 17 — Penumbral lunar eclipse
Coincides with the Sturgeon Moon.

If you keep an eclipse practice, note that two of 2027's full moons — July 18 and August 17 — are eclipse full moons. Many practitioners treat eclipses as a pause rather than a working window, on the reasoning that an eclipse interrupts a cycle rather than completing one. That is a tradition, not a rule, and plenty of people work straight through.

When each full moon peaks: the daylight problem

Something the calendars rarely mention: most full moon peaks in 2027 happen when you cannot see the Moon from the US at all. Here is the distribution across the day in Eastern time.

2027 full moon peaks by time of day (Eastern)

Overnight (midnight–6 a.m.)1 moon
Morning (6 a.m.–noon)5 moons
Afternoon (noon–6 p.m.)1 moon
Evening (6 p.m.–midnight)5 moons

Five of twelve peak between 6 p.m. and midnight Eastern — February, April, June, September and November. Those are the five easiest nights of 2027 to actually stand outside and look up.

What the traditional moon names mean

The names in the table — Wolf, Snow, Worm, Pink — come to us through the Old Farmer's Almanac, which began printing them in the 1930s. Their origins are mixed: some are drawn from Algonquian and other Native American traditions, some from Colonial English and European usage, and the Almanac's own attributions have been criticised as imprecise. They are worth using as seasonal shorthand and worth being honest about as folklore rather than a single documented tradition.

What they track reliably is the agricultural year in the northeastern United States: wolves audible in January, heavy snow in February, ground thawing and earthworms surfacing in March, wild ground phlox blooming pink in April. The Pink Moon is not pink. It is named after a flower.

Which moon is the Harvest Moon in 2027?

The September 15 full moon. The Harvest Moon is defined as the full moon falling closest to the autumn equinox, which in 2027 lands on September 22–23. September 15 is eight days before it; the next full moon, October 15, is more than three weeks after. September takes the title, which pushes October to Hunter's Moon and leaves no need for the alternate September name, Corn Moon.

Some years the arithmetic flips and the Harvest Moon falls in October. That is why the September and October names appear to swap around between calendars — they are not inconsistent, they are following the equinox.

How to plan a year of full moon work

The useful thing about having all twelve dates in front of you in September is that you can plan a year rather than react to a notification. A few ways people structure it:

  • One thread, twelve check-ins. Pick a single intention in January and revisit it at each full moon. Write one line each time. By December you have a record of a year, which is more revealing than any single ritual.
  • Pair each full moon with the new moon two weeks earlier. Set intentions at the dark moon, review at the full. This is the most common rhythm, and our new moon ritual guide covers the setting half.
  • Seasonal anchors only. Four full moons a year — one per season — is a realistic commitment that survives a busy life. The March, June, September and December moons are the natural picks.
  • Follow the Wheel. If you already mark the eight sabbats, the full moons closest to each one give you a second layer. Our guide to the Wheel of the Year maps those festival dates.

Whatever the structure, the full moon is traditionally the harvesting and releasing half of the cycle: you look at what has moved since the new moon, name what you are letting go of, and clear the decks. The step-by-step version lives in our full moon ritual guide.

Practically: how to work with this

Pick your twelve dates now and put them in whatever calendar you actually check, using the evening before each peak. Set them for 8 p.m. rather than the exact minute — you want a reminder to go outside, not an alarm at 3:28 in the morning.

Keep it small enough to repeat. A candle, a notebook and ten minutes is a practice you will still be doing in November; an hour-long working with six components is one you will do twice. If you like a scent to mark the shift, light it as you start and let the end of it be the end of the session — a fixed length removes the question of when to stop. Our ritual candle range is built around that kind of single-purpose burn.

Two practical notes. First, the full moon is the traditional night for cleansing and recharging stones — leave them on a windowsill overnight, though check first which ones are safe, because a few genuinely are not; our guides on cleansing crystals and charging crystals cover the exceptions, and you can browse the full crystal range if you are starting a collection. Second, if you want to make moon water, the jar goes out before dusk and comes in before direct sun hits it.

What people report in practice

We are not going to put invented names and testimonials on this page. What we can tell you is what comes up repeatedly in questions to the shop, across customers in Europe and now the US.

The most common message after a first year of moon-tracking is not about a dramatic result. It is that people notice their own patterns — that they write the same worry down four Januaries running, or that the months they skipped were the months they were busiest, which turns out to be information. The second most common is logistical: people underestimate how often the peak falls in daylight, and how much easier the practice gets once they stop trying to hit the exact minute.

What we don't promise

The astronomical data on this page is calculated and verifiable — dates, times, eclipse types and visibility come from published ephemerides and we have cross-checked them against more than one source.

Everything beyond that is a different category. There is no scientific evidence that lunar phase influences mood, sleep, fertility, behaviour or the outcome of an intention. Large studies have looked and have not found it. Moon practice is a way of structuring attention and marking time, and that structure can be genuinely valuable — but it is not a mechanism acting on the world, and we will not sell it to you as one. Nothing here is medical, psychological or financial advice, and no product on this site treats or cures anything.

Which 2027 full moon should you anchor to?

If twelve feels like too many, start with one. Answer honestly:

What do you most want the year to move?

The other half of the 2027 lunar year is the dark one: all 13 new moons, their US times and zodiac signs, and the August Black Moon are listed in the new moon calendar 2027.

Frequently asked questions

How many full moons are there in 2027?

Twelve, one in each calendar month. There are also thirteen new moons, because August 2027 has two — on the 2nd and the 31st.

When is the first full moon of 2027?

Friday, January 22, at 7:17 a.m. Eastern (4:17 a.m. Pacific). It is the Wolf Moon, and it falls in Leo.

Is there a Blue Moon in 2027?

Yes — a seasonal one. The Flower Moon on May 20 is the third of four full moons in the spring season. There is no monthly Blue Moon in 2027, because no calendar month contains two full moons.

Why does my other calendar say the June full moon is on the 19th?

Because it is printing Universal Time. The peak is 00:44 UTC on June 19, which converts to 8:44 p.m. Eastern on June 18. In every US time zone the June 2027 full moon falls on the 18th. The same applies to the November moon, which is the 13th in the US and the 14th in UTC.

How many supermoons are there in 2027?

It depends who is counting. "Supermoon" has no formal astronomical definition, so publishers use different distance cutoffs. The January 22 Wolf Moon qualifies under every definition; the February 20 Snow Moon qualifies under some. Treat any specific count you see as one source's threshold rather than a fact.

Are there any lunar eclipses visible from the US in 2027?

The February 20–21 penumbral eclipse is partly visible from most of North America, already in progress as the Moon rises, and not visible from Alaska or the West Coast. All three of 2027's lunar eclipses are penumbral, meaning a faint dimming rather than a red "blood moon."

Do I have to do a ritual at the exact minute of the peak?

No. The Moon is visibly full for roughly three nights, and nine of the twelve 2027 peaks occur while the Sun is up somewhere in the US. Working the evening before or the evening after is normal practice, not a compromise.

Which 2027 full moon is the Harvest Moon?

September 15. The Harvest Moon is the full moon nearest the autumn equinox, which falls on September 22–23 in 2027. That makes October 15 the Hunter's Moon.
