Two of the best-known clearing traditions, bound into one 4-inch bundle.

A 4-inch white sage and palo santo smudge stick from the Sacred Crystals collection. Sage is the sharp, stimulating clearer; palo santo — holy wood — brings a warmer, sweeter finish to the same ritual. Sage and smudging run deep in Native American history: sage and other sacred herbs were planted around crops to keep hungry animals off — they do not taste good — and were used for spiritual cleansing and ceremony. Today white sage is commonly burned before ritual to settle the energy of everyone walking in. This sage is farm-grown in Mexico, never wild-harvested from national parks or native land.

At a glance

  • 4-inch bundle of white sage with palo santo
  • Sharp sage clearing with a warmer, sweeter finish
  • Farm-grown sage from Mexico, never wild-harvested from native land
  • Also used to cleanse crystals and jewelry in the smoke
  • Reusable across many sessions when extinguished properly and stored dry

How to use it

  • Light the end with the fewest stems — not the leafy end — let it flame, then blow it out so it smolders.
  • Hold it over a heat-proof dish the whole time. An abalone or lion's paw shell is traditional; any ceramic bowl works.
  • Waft the smoke through the space, using a feather if you have one, or set the bundle down on the dish and let it work.
  • To cleanse stones and jewelry, hold them steadily in the smoke until it flows in a straight stream upward after circling the piece.
  • Extinguish it completely by pressing the lit end into the dish, then store it dry. One bundle lasts many sessions.

✨ Temple Tip — let it go out on its own timing, then relight

Palo santo behaves differently from leaf: the wood tends to self-extinguish after thirty seconds or so while the sage keeps smoldering. That is not a defect in the bundle. Relight it as often as you need — a blended bundle used this way lasts considerably longer than a pure sage one.

Questions we get asked

How big is the bundle?
Approximately 4 inches.
What is palo santo?
A sacred wood, traditionally burned for cleansing. Here it is bound together with white sage.
Why does it keep going out?
Wood self-extinguishes faster than leaf. Simply relight it as needed.
Where does the sage come from?
A farm in Mexico. White sage should never be harvested from national parks or native land.
Is it safe around pets or asthma?
We would not burn it around birds, asthma, or small children. Smoke is a respiratory irritant.

Care & safety: Never leave a smoldering bundle unattended, and make sure it is completely out before you leave the area. Burn over a heat-proof dish and carry the dish with you. Keep out of reach of children and animals and away from anything flammable. Ventilate during and after — smoke is a respiratory irritant regardless of what is burning, and it is not suitable around asthma, small children, or birds. A ritual tool, not a medical or healthcare product; no health claim is made. We recommend consulting a qualified healthcare practitioner before using herbal products, particularly if you are pregnant, nursing, or taking medication. In short

The Palo Santo & White Sage Smudge Stick is a 4-inch bound bundle from the Sacred Crystals collection at Temple of Desire, binding white sage together with palo santo. Sage is the sharper clearing herb, while palo santo, or holy wood, gives the same ritual a warmer, sweeter finish. The sage is farm-grown in Mexico rather than wild-harvested from national parks or native land. The bundle is lit, blown out so it smolders over a heat-proof dish, and the smoke moved through a room or around crystals and jewelry. One bundle ships for $7.49 and lasts across many sessions when extinguished fully and stored dry; a heat-proof dish or shell is not included.
