How to use it

Carry a heat-proof dish under it the whole way round. Embers fall, and they fall while you are walking.

Light it, let it flame, blow it out. You want a steady smoulder, not a flame.

Start at the far corner of the home and work toward the front door, finishing with the door itself.

Open a window in each room as you go. Smoke needs somewhere to leave.

Every tradition that walks smoke through a home moves in a consistent direction and ends at a threshold — usually the front door, left open. Whether you say anything while you do it is your business. Whether you finish at a door that is open is what turns wandering around with a smoking bundle into a ritual with a shape.

How long does one bundle last?
Up to two hours of burn time, and it does not have to be used in one session — extinguish in sand and relight later.
What is rue?
A bitter herb long used in European folk practice for protection and clearing. It has a sharp, green, unmistakably herbal smoke.
How do I put it out?
Press the lit end into sand or a heat-proof dish until it stops smouldering. Never water — a wet bundle will not relight properly.
Is it very smoky?
Yes. Smoke cleansing produces a lot of smoke by design. Ventilate and start away from smoke detectors.
Can I return it?
No. Incense is a consumable and this item is non-returnable. If something arrives damaged, write to us and we will make it right.
