Burning palo santo chips is a nuisance — they need a charcoal disk, they go out, and half the wood ends up unburned in the bottom of the burner. These are the same wood, ground and rolled into a stick with a plant-based binder, so it behaves like incense and smells like palo santo. That is the entire proposition and it is a good one.

Made from 100% sustainable palo santo chips and powder, blended with a second material — rosemary, frankincense, sandalwood, jasmine, copal, myrrh or champa. About an hour per stick, and made to be extinguished and relit.

At a glance

  • 100% sustainable palo santo — chips and powder with a plant-based binder
  • Seven blends — rosemary, frankincense, sandalwood, jasmine, copal, myrrh, champa
  • Handcrafted
  • About 60 minutes per stick — extinguish and relight for multiple sessions from one stick
  • Conscious packing — orders may arrive in reused shipping boxes and locally recycled paper

How to use it

  • Use it to open a space before other work — palo santo is traditionally a clearing wood rather than a scenting one.
  • Heat-proof holder on a stable surface, ventilated room.
  • Light, flame, blow out. Keep the ember, lose the flame.
  • Ten to fifteen minutes is enough to change a room. Extinguish in sand and keep the rest.
  • Follow it with something warmer if you want the room to stay scented — palo santo clears more than it lingers.

The blends

Blend Traditionally associated with
with Rosemary Memory and the bonds between people
with Frankincense Peace, prosperity and a harmonious atmosphere
with Sandalwood Mental clarity and relaxation — Andes and Himalaya woods together
with Jasmine Purity, simplicity, peace and prosperity
with Copal Purification and healing smoke; good fortune
with Myrrh Renewal, calm and tranquillity
with Champa Preparing a space for meditation and relaxation

✨ Temple Tip — sustainable palo santo means fallen wood, and it matters

Palo santo is only harvested responsibly when the tree has died naturally and been left to cure for years — that curing is also what produces the resin the scent depends on. Wood cut live smells thin. Sustainability and quality point in the same direction here, which is not true of every material.

Questions we get asked

Is this real palo santo?
Yes — the sticks are made from palo santo chips and powder with a plant-based binder, rather than a fragrance oil on a bamboo core.
Which blend should I start with?
Plain palo santo or the frankincense blend. Both are close to the raw wood; jasmine and champa are the most floral departures.
Do I need a charcoal disk?
No — that is the point of the format. It lights and burns like any incense stick.
Can I put one out and relight it?
Yes — that is how the maker intends them to be used. Press the lit end gently into sand or a heat-proof dish, let it cool, and relight when you next sit down.
Can I return it?
No. Incense is a consumable and this item is non-returnable. If something arrives damaged, write to us and we will make it right.

Burn safely: Always burn in a heat-proof holder on a stable, non-flammable surface, in a well-ventilated room. Never leave a burning stick, bomb or disk unattended. Keep away from children, pets, curtains and anything that catches. Smoke-cleansing products give off a lot of smoke — start away from smoke detectors. Store dry and out of direct sun. A ritual object, not a remedy: traditional associations described here are traditions of association, not claims of physical or psychological effect, and nothing here is medical advice.

Holy wood, without the charcoal. #TempleOfDesire

In short

The Palo Santo Incense Collection is a range of handcrafted incense sticks from Sacred Scents Sanctuary, made from palo santo chips and powder with a plant-based binder rather than loose wood chips. Each version blends the palo santo with a second material — among them rosemary, frankincense, sandalwood, jasmine, copal, myrrh, champa, patchouli and vanilla. Because the wood is rolled into a stick, it burns evenly without the charcoal disk that loose chips require, at about 60 minutes per stick. Single boxes cost $16, with multi-box options available; sticks can be extinguished in sand and relit. Palo santo is traditionally used to open a space rather than to scent it, so the smell clears rather than lingers.
