Dark and understated until the light hits it — and then it is not.

A hand-selected labradorite comfort stone, slightly larger and flatter than a standard tumble, shaped to rest in the palm or between the fingers. Labradorite is a feldspar whose signature flash — labradorescence — comes from light interference between thin layers inside the stone. It was first described in 1770 on Canada's Labrador Peninsula, and Indigenous peoples of the region held that it formed when the Northern Lights were caught in stone. Major sources today include Canada, Madagascar, Finland, and Russia. In metaphysical practice it is a third eye and crown stone of transformation, intuition, and aura protection.

At a glance

  • One (1) hand-selected comfort stone
  • Flashes electric blue, gold, green, and violet at the right angle
  • Flatter and larger than a standard tumble
  • First described in 1770 on the Labrador Peninsula, Canada
  • Third eye and crown chakras in metaphysical practice

How to use it

  • Find the flash first. Tilt it slowly under a lamp until the color fires; every stone has an angle.
  • Hold it in the palm during meditation or intuitive work.
  • Carry it through transitions — moves, endings, beginnings.
  • Keep it in the pocket on days spent among draining people.
  • Thumb the flat face when you need something to hold onto.

Which form suits you

Form Shape Best for
Tumbled stone Smooth and rounded, polished the way a riverbed polishes stone Pocket carry, meditation, crystal grids
Comfort stone Flat oval with a slight thumb indentation Holding and thumbing in stressful moments
Flat palm stone Broad and flat for maximum contact with the palm Desk placement, body work, daily carry
Pocket sphere Small rounded sphere with a satin finish Introspection and quiet, mindful moments

✨ Temple Tip — chase the angle before you judge the stone

Labradorescence is directional. A piece that looks flat grey on a cloudy windowsill can blaze gold two inches to the left, and plenty of people quietly conclude they received a dull stone when they simply have not turned it yet. Hold it near a single light source and rotate slowly. There is always an angle.

Questions we get asked

That is labradorescence — light interference between internal layers. It is directional, so tilt the stone until you find the angle.
Where does labradorite come from?
Major sources include Canada, Madagascar, Finland, and Russia.
Where does the name come from?
The Labrador Peninsula in Canada, where the stone was first described in 1770.
Which chakras is it associated with?
The third eye and crown chakras, in metaphysical practice.
What exactly will I receive?
One (1) labradorite comfort stone, hand-selected for you. Flash and pattern vary between pieces.

In short

The Labradorite Comfort Stone is a hand-selected thumb stone from the Sacred Crystals collection at Temple of Desire, flatter and larger than a standard tumble. Labradorite is a feldspar whose flash, called labradorescence, comes from light interference between thin internal layers; it was first described in 1770 on Canada's Labrador Peninsula, and sources today include Canada, Madagascar, Finland, and Russia. In metaphysical practice it is a third eye and crown stone associated with intuition, transformation, and aura protection. People tilt it under a lamp to find the flash, hold it in the palm during meditation, or carry it through periods of change. One stone ships for $6.95. The flash appears only at certain angles and varies in color and intensity from piece to piece.
