This is cacao with nothing added and nothing to hide behind. One hundred percent cacao from the Semuliki Forest — a lush tropical rainforest beneath the Rwenzori Mountains on the Congo–Uganda border, part of the headwaters of the Nile.
The flavour is the one people mean when they say chocolate: classic, consistent, closer to childhood hot cocoa and chocolate fudge than to anything austere. More than half the farmers who grow it are women, and seventy percent are under thirty-five, so the cup carries a livelihood as well as a flavour.

How to use it
Weigh or chop your serving and melt it into 6–8 oz of hot water — hot enough to steam, never boiling.
Whisk for thirty seconds until it emulsifies and takes on a slight foam. Pure 100% cacao is unsweetened, so taste it plain first before you decide whether it needs anything.
A pinch of salt sharpens it, honey rounds it, chilli lengthens the finish, and a splash of oat milk makes it dessert. Purists take it as it comes.
This is the blend to learn on. Once you know what unadorned cacao tastes like, every botanical blend afterwards makes more sense.
Ceremonial cacao vs. cacao powder vs. nibs
| Uplifting Uganda | Triple Fat Cacao Powder | Cacao Nibs | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Form | Whole bean, fat intact | Powder, 30% natural fat | Cracked roasted bean pieces |
| Made for | Drinking as ceremonial cacao | Baking, smoothies, cooking | Snacking, texture, topping |
| Melts into a drink | Yes | Yes | No |
| Sweetened | No | No | No |
✨ Temple Tip
Drink it once with absolutely nothing added, standing at the window, before you form an opinion. Every other cup you make afterwards is measured against that one — and you want the baseline to be honest.
Frequently asked questions
What does 100% cacao mean?
No sugar, no milk, no botanicals — just cacao bean, minimally processed with the cacao butter intact. It is unsweetened by definition.
Is it bitter?
Less than people expect. Good ceremonial cacao is rich and rounded rather than sharp, and this one leans distinctly towards classic chocolate flavours.
How much per cup?
Around 20–42 g into 6–8 oz of hot water. Start lower on your first cups.
Where exactly does it come from?
The Semuliki Forest beneath the Rwenzori Mountains in Uganda, on the border with the Congo — part of the Nile headwaters.
Can I bake with it?
You can, though it is made for drinking. For baking and smoothies, our Triple Fat Cacao Powder is the more practical choice.
